AUGUSTA - Jack I. Bubier, 74, of Phillips died on Jan. 21, 2010 at the Maine Veterans Hospital where he had been a patient for the past week following a long illness.

He was born on July 1, 1935 in Phillips the son of Reginald and Eunice Landers Bubier Sr. He was educated in the schools of Phillips graduating from Phillips High School in the class of 1954. He served in the U.S. Army where he was a paratrooper.

Jack married Katherine Witherell on Feb 7, 1959 in Middletown, Conn. She died on Nov. 9, 2001. He and his wife owned and operated the Madrid General Store for 25 years, retiring in 1988. Jack also drove the local school bus in Madrid for 30 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years owning his own construction company. He was a selectman for the town of Madrid for over 30 years and was known as the “Mayor of Madrid.”

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his family. He was a member of the Prescott-Fairbanks American Legion Post of Phillips.

He was survived by two sons: Jack Bubier, Jr. and companion Norma Adametz of Meriden,
Conn.; Emery Bubier and companion Kelly Simpson of Phillips; one daughter, Lisa Bubier and companion Don Haines of Phillips; one brother, Paul Bubier and wife Marie of Phillips; two sisters, Pearl Robertson and her husband Fred of Chester, Conn.; Joan Eustis and husband Todd of Phillips; one grandson Kenneth Bubier and companion Amanda Barry of Phillips; one granddaughter Hillary Bubier of Avon; many cousins in the Greene area and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Reginald Bubier.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Phillips Congregational Church, Main Street, Phillips, with Pastor Sue Kaplan-Burgess officiating. Visitation hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the church. Interment will be at the Bubier Cemetery in Phillips in the spring.
